PROJECT: Recycled Beauty

Recycling is the process of converting waste materials into reusable objects to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, energy usage, air pollution (from incineration) and water pollution (from landfilling) by decreasing the need for “conventional” waste disposal and lowering greenhouse gas emissions compared to plastic production.^[1][2] Recycling is a key component of modern waste reduction and is the third component of the “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” waste hierarchy.

Ideally, a recycled item is supposed to give you a fresh supply of the same material but as explained above, one can opt to reuse instead of developing a similar product and that’s exactly how we went about this.

Introducing project number 2.

Ever met a person or group of people who you share the same thought process with, well almost, people who have the same vision and passion as you do and are willing to go the extra mile to achieve them even if it means breaking out from the norm and doing extraordinary things?

Well that’s my team.

So when I got the idea for the project I knew I would want to share it with them and I trusted them/us to bring it to fruition in the best way possible. I must say they didn’t fail at all. After I think three meetings brainstorming and dissecting the idea to see what its intestines were made of (ok that’s gory) we finally had a winner.

Each one of us gave their full input and the end product was amazing.

Trust me, we couldn’t wait for the final edits.

LOOK 1

Remember cassettes?

Yes, Val, the costume designer wrecked havoc on as many as she could find to come up with this layered piece from the cassette wires and it was just incredible how they turned out. I had this set of cello-tapes in the house that belonged to my sister and soon as I saw them I knew they’d come in handy as pseudo-bangles. With hair set in place, we completed the look with this nice arrangement of old discs to give the model a nice crown.

Cool, huh!

LOOK 2

All hail bubble wraps.

Jeff the hair guru outdid himself on this looks using a bubble wrap as a head wrap or as the West Africans would call it gele.

The accessories are cut out plastic bottle pieces which really flowed in well with the newspaper pieces giving it a crisp monochrome vibe.

The makeup was sleek and flawless fusing well with the perfect lighting and photography.

This was a great way to start the year for us.
