It’s events season again.
It’s always events season in Kenya, more reason why you need to have your own events calendar to help you figure out which events to go to and which one to give a wide berth.
Refer to this past article.
With that said, allow me to introduce to you an event that will be happening this weekend and one that you definitely have to plan to attend mainly because it’s among the most prestigious fashion events in the country having made its reputation by being in existence for three good years and growing better by the day, Nairobi Fashion Week.
So much so that it was recently acknowledged by the Diaspora Community as one of the twelve fashion events in Africa that attract big business.
Isn’t that incentive enough for you to attend and see for yourself just which fashion brands will be showcasing and how good NFW is for them to secure a place in this list?
Happening at the Garden City Mall on the 28th of November 2015, 15 designers are slated to showcase their 2016 summer collections at this iconic fashion extravaganza after a glitzy opening the same evening.
Designers to look out for this year’s event include:
- Accra-based Bertha Owusu, a former Miss World Ghana whose label Lumiere Couture was feted in the just concluded Glitz Style Award.
- England born renowned Kenyan Milliner Chloe Mitchell of Drop of A Hat, whose outstanding caps have been worn by Lupita Nyongo. Chloe’s collection is made up of versatile pieces in vivid hues of colors and designs.
- Maryam Oliech of M’oliech Fashion House a contemporary womens-wear label made up of sustainable textiles with a focus on perfectly-executed tailoring and attention to detail.
Returning to NFW are:
Atelier Iyke Williams of Dee Iyke Fashion House from Accra Ghana, among others.
Seeing many local designers achieve success yet still return to NFW every season is uplifting to the fashion industry as NFW offers them exposure on the international fashion stage.
“Seeing them grow and come back, that’s the most uplifting,” says James Brian, the events Proprietor. It’s quite inspirational.
For loyal followers of the event, you may have noticed that this year it’s going to be a one-day thing as opposed to the usual 3-day event. This is due to some unavoidable circumstances that will not hinder the show living up to its billing.
Nairobi Fashion Weeks’ communication team said this season’s event, will be the most memorable in NFW history.
