What comes to your mind when you hear these words, knitting, crotchets, weaving? If you are like most of us, you picture an old bored lady sitting in the corner of her room knitting quilts for her grandchildren to while away time, right? Introducing Claudia Asha, owner of Knits & Weave. She’s a jewellery and fashion designer whose main tool is the crotchet and the yarn. She uniquely captures this almost lost art in a very creative and artistic way. Here’s a brief bio of her brand:
Q: What is Knits & Weave about?
A: We are about showcasing what God can do if we allow Him to use our talents for His glory. We aim at introducing knitting as an art, not as the norm of old lady knitting sweaters picture.
Q:When and how did Knits & Weave start?
A: We have been in existence for a while. Back in 2009 someone gave me the idea of weaving and I started weaving floor mats. It went okay for a while. However, my heart was never fully there till last year, 2013 when I rediscovered my love for knitting. My mother taught me how to knit when I was a little girl and it’s not until last year when I picked up the knitting needles and started knitting again.
Q: Why Knits & Weave?
A: Knits & Weave as a name is derived from Psalms 139:13-16 and we aim to showcase that our lives are like yarn. At first glance, yarn looks like just a collection of wool. However, once the yarn is knitted or woven it produces a beautiful product which is what God aims to do with our lives if and when we give Him the chance to. Hence the name ‘Knits & Weave.
Q: What is your inspiration?
A: Jesus Christ is my biggest inspiration, in as much as that maybe a cliché. I want to stand out, be a trend setter just like Jesus was and that is always my drive; to do things differently and to present it as the unexpected.
Q: How can people find you?
